Crown Thread Chasing Recess Tool

Crown Thread Chasing Recess Tool Reviews

Other Picture

Crown Thread Chasing Recess Tool Feature

  • Apply threads quickly and easily
  • Learn from Legendary turner Bill Jones
When hand chasing female threads, a small recess must be cut at the bottom of the threads to allow lifting the chaser without damaging the threads. This scraper quickly and cleanly cuts a perfect recess while leaving a clean groove that is unnoticeable in your finished project.

The art of thread chasing is still the quickest and easiest way to apply threads to your wood turning projects. With a little practice, along with the included instructions from Legendary English turner Bill Jones, you can quickly learn to cut threads on boxes or center work. Three tools are required to chase threads, #1 an outside and inside chaser tools, #2 a thread chaser recess tool and #3 a lathe that can be slowed down to 100 - 300 rpms. When hand chasing female threads, a small recess must be cut at the bottom of the threads to allow lifting the chaser without damaging the threads. This scraper quickly and cleanly cuts a perfect recess while leaving a clean groove that is unnoticeable in your finished project. Thread chasers work best in dense hardwoods and are sold as a set (one inside and one outside chaser). 5 handles, approximately 10 overall length.

1/4" Robert Sorby #805H Captive Ring Tool Reviews

Other Picture

Bangles, bracelets, curtain rings, napkin rings, and wheels, as well as captive rings in goblets and puzzles, are among the many projects that can be created with this ingeniously simple tool. What makes it even more special is that the cutters are both replaceable and interchangeable, so once you have a handle you can just add cutters to increase the range. The result - you get a high quality tool at a lower cost than traditional fixed tip cutters. Each cutter fits into a specific slot to locate it properly at the correct angle for creating a perfect cut on each side of the ring. The 3/4" flat shank on the handle of the tool keeps it firmly in contact with the lathe rest for full control. Cutters can be sharpened on a diamond hone. Made in England. Ring Tools are available in individual sizes with handle. Individual cutting tips are available separately.

2.5" 4-Jaw Self-centering Chuck

2.5" 4-Jaw Self-centering Chuck Reviews

Other Picture

2.5" 4-Jaw Self-centering Chuck Feature

  • Hardened steel reversible jaws
  • Hold parts from 3/32 to 1-3/16 in regular position, to 2-1/4 with jaws reversed
  • Jaws scroll together when outer ring of chuck is turned for quick centering of material
  • 4 jaws hold round, square or tubular stock
  • Includes two spindle bars for adjustment
Self-centering chucks utilize a spiral scroll that causes all three jaws to close on the part at the same time when the outer ring of the chuck is turned in relation to the body. Round or square material is centered quickly and easily. Runout (centering accuracy) is guaranteed to be .003" or less. Because of the number of moving parts, accuracy greater than this cannot be guaranteed with this type of chuck. If greater centering accuracy is needed, an "independent" jaw chuck where the jaws are adjusted one at a time might be needed. Self-centering chucks are the most popular because they offer quick centering and a high enough level of accuracy for most jobs. Reversable jaws are made from hardened steel. This large chuck will hold parts from 3/32" up to 1/3/16" with the jaws in the normal position. Reversing the jaws allows parts up to 2-1/4" to be held. (Note that material held in a 4-jaw self-centering chuck must be accurately round or square or all four jaws will not contact the part.) Two steel spindle bars (sometimes called "Tommy" bars are included to tighten the chuck. For use with Sherline machine tools.
